A VOICE FROM MELBOURNE

About
Coming together as a community and staying connected to our
roots are the main objectives behind this initiative. It is both a continuation
of my previous endeavour,
It
was said that “To be Maltese is to live a
dream” (Prof Guido de Marco in his inaugural speech as President of Malta).
In continuing to live this dream, it is my intention to reach to a wider
audience in recalling the enchanting tale of survival and progress of a small island-nation
and its people.
To
me, the most practical way to do this is to use the Internet – the information
superhighway, with its great promise of dialogue and discourse, of inclusion
and accessibility, of sharing across the seas.
Admittedly,
the virtual relationships I have in mind are no substitute for proper human
contact. But then, the latter is not all the time within reach. And when it is
not, we should be thankful that – as the world and its ways are reinvented – technology
is there to bring us closer together, to keep us in touch all the time, abreast
of what is happening around us.
There
is much to be proud of in the values we hold dear, and the beliefs that cut to
the core of who we are. Sharing our knowledge in this regard should help us
maintain security of orientation as we journey together from a millennial past
to the current century, as we continue to celebrate Malta as our country of
origin and Australia as the land of adoption.
